UWF

UWF was awesome! Seeing the freshwater ecosystems and the impacts they have on the Gulf was fascinating. All the faculty members were really nice and eager to answer any questions I had about their profession or how they got to where they are today.

The beaches and emerald water were beautiful to see and learned that their sand here is made from quartz from the Appalachian mountains! We caught and saw lots of different species of fish and invertebrates in the saltwater habitats. Found a leech and ticks in the freshwater habitats! Never seen a real live leech before, and hope not to again.

Perdido Bay, Big Lagoon, Fort Pickens were some of the locations I enjoyed the most. Weather got a little tricky as it normally will in summer in FL but we were still able to get everything we needed done. The sea turtle light pollution survey seemed interesting and seeing a                                         Leatherback sea turtle nest was pretty cool too!
