This first week (ish) to the FIO course has been awesome!

So far we've been introduced to each of the four different components of oceanography: chemical, physical, biological, and geological. Coming from all different schools each of us has been exposed to varying aspects of each component and it has been fascinating learning about the others.

One of my favorite activities/lessons so far was the core sampling. I found the color stratifications defining the redox potential of that time period very interesting.

I also really enjoyed the first day of kayaking. It was a great way to get to know one another and we saw a variety of things including dolphins, cownose rays, and cowfish. It was also nice just being out in the water, which clearly all of us enjoy (or we wouldn't be here).

I can't wait for the next few weeks to see what else there is to come!
